2010 Eagle Scout Career Day
Overview
 
Concept:
A career development program to help Eagle Scouts gain a better understanding of (and further their interest in
a specific profession while engaging the business community in an exciting Scouting event highlighted by a dinner
and program.
The event will be conducted by the Indian Waters Council, Boy Scouts of America and include its Eagle Scouts
from the previous year and a Mentor/Sponsor assigned to each of them. Parents and Scouting leaders are also
invited to be guests at the dinner.
             
Background:
This new event is an important part of the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Boy Scouts of America.  It is based
on a highly successful Eagle Scout Career Day in Washington, D.C. which typically included 750-1,000 and
Honoree/Speakers such as Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary Tom Ridge, and Secretary Togo West.
Details:
The event will include the following program highlights:
* A morning or afternoon in which the Eagle Scouts "shadow" their Mentor/Sponsor at their place of work; ideally the day of the dinner.
* A dinner featuring an Honoree/Speaker of national acclaim who exemplifies the ideals of Scouting in their daily life and in their profession.
* The dinner will include a major are a-wide media figure serving as Master of Ceremonies as well as a meaningful program.
* Projected attendance of 400 (125 Eagle Scouts, 125 Mentor/Sponsors, and 150 parents and Scouting volunteer leaders).

Major General Stanhope Spears, Head of the Military Department, South Carolina.

Thursday, June 3, 2010; 6:00 p.m. Reception, 7:00 p.m. Dinner
 
Location:
The shadow program will take place at the Mentor/Sponsor’s place-of-work and the dinner at Embassy Suites,
200 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SouthCarolina.
 
Fee:
Eagle Scouts: No fee  (Eagle Career Day Response)  (Eagle Career Choices)
Mentor/Sponsors: $75
Guests: $35
 
Roles:
SteeringCommittee - Recruit 3-5 Mentor Sponsors.
Mentor/Sponsor – Provide a "shadowing" opportunity for the Eagle Scout, allowing him to discover the profession,
its background requirements, and the realities of the career. Attend the dinner and pay the Mentor/Sponsor fee.
